Ambulance resources still needed for the Latrobe Valley

Member for Morwell Russell Northe said the Latrobe Valley community and local paramedics deserve praise for their advocacy in their quest for additional ambulance services.

This follows a recent Government announcement of more ambulance resources for Traralgon and Moe.

Mr Northe said that despite the extraordinary efforts of our paramedics, there have been some concerns raised with respect to ambulance response times in our community.

"This is not reflective of the performance or dedication of local paramedics, but an indication of a lack of resources in the Latrobe Valley," Mr Northe said.

"Response times in Latrobe Valley remain below the state average, the September quarter was 14.1 minutes, with the state’s median response time at 12.5 minutes.

"Code 1 incidents are at 67.5 per cent which sits at nine per cent below the state average of 76.7 per cent."

Mr Northe said resources are desperately needed in Traralgon for example where currently only one ambulance services the entire town.

"Our local paramedics do an incredible job in challenging circumstances and its imperative they are adequately resourced and supported," Mr Northe said.

"Daniel Andrews was recently caught out trying to close Ambulance Victoria Headquarters in Morwell; and our community will be thrilled that not only have we saved Ambulance Victoria Headquarters but we will also now see more local ambulance resources in our region."
