Bass And Kilcunda Look To The Future

The network of Community Planning groups in Bass Coast is about to expand to Bass and Kilcunda.

By Bass Coast - 6th October 2010 - Back to News

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Community Development Team Leader, Kerri Ritchie, said the residents of each town are invited to a series of workshops to talk about things important to their community.

"Community planning draws on those who know their community best, to identify and work on projects which make a difference," said Ms Ritchie.

"The Community Action Plan prepared during the workshops is a powerful way of communicating each community’s vision, priorities and projects.

"The community agrees on what goes into the plan and is the driving force behind making it happen.

"Not only are wonderful project outcomes often achieved, but working together brings the added benefits of connecting people and helping others," continued Ms Ritchie.

Community planning aims to link the skills and knowledge found in even the smallest of communities, to get the job done.

The first Bass workshop will be held on Tuesday, 5 October from 7.00pm to 9.30pm at the Bass Community Hall.

In Kilcunda the initial workshop will be held on Thursday, 7 October from 7.00pm to 9.30pm at the Kilcunda Community Hall.

"Two more workshops will be held in each town in early November and December, so if you’re unable to make the first, there are other opportunities to be involved," said Ms Ritchie.

"In the first session Dana Hughes from C &T Training will explain how community action planning works and then smaller groups will be formed, so everyone will get a chance to put forward their ideas."

Bass Coast Shire Council has received funding from the Department of Planning and Community Development to work with six local communities to put together their plans.

Other areas in the Shire where community action planning is underway include Inverloch, South Coast Phillip Island, Cape Paterson and Dalyston.
