Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Kellie O’Callaghan, said that the instruments had been installed in Legacy Place for the community to enjoy."Advance Morwell asked Council to organise a community consultation to get feedback from residents about the idea. The response was positive and now the large instruments are in place, being used. "They’re a great addition to the space and whilst their prime function is to provide a fun activity for children (and children of all ages!), they are also a further reason for people to visit Legacy Place. Morwell CBD has some unique and boutique tourist spots – Tarwin Street Pop-up Park, Church Street, the Centenary Rose Garden and now the instruments at Legacy Place," Cr O’Callaghan said. According to Advance Morwell spokesman, Max Williamson, the donation from a philanthropic supporter was given on the condition that it was spent on a permanent improvement to Morwell that enhanced the town. "Advance Morwell put a great deal of thought into what to purchase with the donation and decided upon musical instruments, as they would provide a new attraction for children. We decided on Legacy Place as a drawcard for youngsters and their parents, but also to help raise the profile of Morwell’s Sir Stanley Savige, the founder of Legacy. "The three instruments that have been installed are the imbarimba, drum set and the manta ray, chosen so that their harmony and appearance would complement the CBD. We worked with Legacy and Latrobe City Council to deliver this project," Mr Williamson said. Cr O’Callaghan said that the project was a great example of a collaborative effort between organisations. "And the winner is the community," Cr O’Callaghan concluded.
