Airport gets 100% tick of approval from CASAThe Latrobe Valley Airport received a one-hundred percent tick of approval from a recent audit conducted by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA). By Latrobe City Council - 16th May 2006 - Back to News The airport is inspected annually, but this is the first time the inspection has passed every aspect of the rigorous test without a single item being noted for correction or improvement.
Council’s airport manager, Neil Cooper, said that with such a rigorous audit undertaken, it is unusual for an airport to be given a compliance ticket, without a notation on something that can be improved.
"The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) is required to carry out an annual inspection of all licensed airports under the civil aviation safety regulations and checks airport services and equipment such as terminal signage, baggage handling, apron markings, landing lights, emergency equipment and communications for compliance," Mr Cooper said.
"The recent inspection revealed all airport facilities, operating procedures and processes were found to be in complete compliance in all aspects. Even a weed growing in the wrong place can result in a fault being noted for future action," he explained.
"The Airport Board has instituted a rigorous long-term maintenance regime for its runways, taxiways and other physical infrastructure; and continually reviews its operating procedures to maintain this airport to a maximum standard of safety. This excellent result is very much due to their good work. It’s also very much due to the great job being undertaken by our operations officer, Allan McEwan, who keeps everything working and compliant," Mr Cooper added.
