Don’t want wind towers? Tell the Minister!

Council Officers are receiving an overload of enquiries about the proposed Dollar Wind Energy facility.

By South Gippsland Shire Council - 5th November 2004 - Back to News

"The Minister for Planning, the Hon Mary Delahunty, is the Responsible Authority for all wind energy proposals that are over 30 MW or greater." Said the Mayor, Cr Heather Bligh.

"This is another case, similar to Rural Zoning, where the decision making power has been wrested by State Government from the local government authority who have the intimate knowledge of the local environment and the community’s feelings."

"As a result of this, we really are of limited assistance to handle the enquiries and the time taken to handle them by our officers could be used more effectively processing other planning priorities." added Cr Bligh.

The Minister can be contacted through the regional office of the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) at 71 Hotham St., Traralgon 3844, phone 5172 2111.

You may also wish to address enquiries to the developer: Meridian Energy Ltd at Level 12, 37 Bligh St., Sydney NSW 2000, phone 02 8233 9255.
