V/Line Doubts Grow In Traralgon: Northe

There is growing concern that the Brumby Government will cut V/Line services between the Latrobe Valley and Southern Cross Station, The Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe said today.

By Russell Northe - 11th December 2009 - Back to News

In Parliament this week, Mr Northe tabled more petitions formally objecting to Minister Kosky’s plan to terminate the Traralgon V/Line service before it reached Southern Cross Station, taking the total number of petition signatures to 1,146.

"Public Transport Minister Lynne Kosky continues her refusal to dispel fears that the government’s regional transport plan will be to the detriment of passengers on the Traralgon line," Mr Northe said.

"There will be improved services in Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo – why have Traralgon passengers drawn the short straw?

"The Latrobe Valley should be entitled to better V/Line services into the future, but passengers are likely to face deteriorated services because their direct route to Southern Cross Station will be cut under Labor.

"Premier Brumby and Minister Kosky are willing to force Traralgon residents to change at Richmond or Flinders street.

"Traralgon residents are owed a full explanation by the government, not the stark silence they have received to this point.

"Minster Kosky has failed to guarantee that services will continue as normal or provide details of the changes – Traralgon deserves better."

Mr Northe said the Victorian Liberal Nationals Coalition was committed to ensuring traveling to and from Melbourne got better, not worse.

"A Coalition Government will improve safety on trains by putting Victoria Police Protective Services Officers (PSOs) on every train station in metropolitan Melbourne and the major regional centres including Traralgon, after 6pm, seven days a week," Mr Northe said.
