School immunisation certificates

Wellington Shire Council reminds parents of children starting primary school next year that they will require a school entry immunisation certificate to present to the school.

By Wellington Shire Council - 12th August 2005 - Back to News

Wellington’s Environmental Health Co-ordinator Allan Watson said: "In Victoria, it is a legal requirement to provide a school entry immunisation certificate on enrolment into primary school regardless of the child’s immunisation status.

"It is important for the school to be aware of every child's immunisation status in the event of a disease outbreak within the school."

Mr Watson said all immunisation certificates were previously issued by the Council but procedures changed last August.

As a result, all children who have been fully immunised (up to four years old) should now automatically receive an Immunisation History Statement from the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register (ACIR) with a statement at the end of the document saying the child has received all vaccines required by 5 years of age.

A copy of this statement can be presented at the school. If you have not received this statement and your child is fully immunised please contact the ACIR 1800 653 809.

For children who have not been immunised for various reasons or have been immunised outside the routine immunisation schedule, a school entry immunisation certificate can be obtained from the Wellington Shire Immunisation Team, either by phoning 5142 3410 or coming to the Council Customer Service Centre in Foster Street Sale.

If your child still requires their immunisations for up to four year olds (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, Polio, Measles, Mumps and Rubella), please refer to the Wellington News section of this paper for free immunisation session times in Heyfield, Maffra, Sale and Yarram, contact the office on 5142 3420 or visit the Council’s website on www.wellington.vic.gov.au
