Cann River Hall To Be Extended

The Community Hall at Cann River is to be extended following approval by East Gippsland Shire Councillors.

By East Gippsland Shire Council - 30th March 2005 - Back to News

A tender from Moe contractor G & G Power Constructions Pty Ltd to build a nine square extension to the existing building that is located on the main Princes Highway has been accepted.

Work will also include re-cladding external walls of the existing structure and removal of the asbestos sheeting that is currently in place.

The extension expected to cost almost $200,000 will incorporate four offices, entrance foyer, toilet/baby change and waiting areas and involve all associated plumbing, carpentry, painting, drainage, tiling and electric disabled access.

East Gippsland Shire Council CEO Steve Kozlowski said the existing hall is over crowded, under equipped and had outgrown the needs of the community.

"The extension will enable the community to improve and expand the range of services that have been identified as being vital to community needs," he said.

"We expect the services provided at the refurbished hall will include Centrelink, Adult Community and Further Education, East Gippsland TAFE and a neighbourhood house."

Mr Kozlowski said funding for the hall extension would come from council resources as well a grant from Department of Transport and Regional Services (DOTARS) under the Rural Transaction Centres Program.

He said work would begin in April and should take about 8-9 weeks to complete.
