Latrobe Valley Power StationsPossible early closure of Latrobe Valley Power Stations By Portal Admin - 7th July 2019 - Back to News Media reports today surrounding the possible early closure of Latrobe Valley Power Stations and how Government Policy influences such decisions is something I have been raising for months and months within the Parliament and in the public domain.
For example, earlier this year I questioned the Minister for Energy QWN - Northe to Minister for Energy in regards to how the State Government Victorian renewable energy target (VRET) would impact the future of Latrobe Valley power stations and it’s workers, families and our community more generally.
I find it astounding that the Government is able to announce such policies and yet not be able to answer what impacts this same policy would have upon our power stations.
In addition and given the response provided by the Government to questions I put to the Minister for Regional Development with respect to the current employment status of former Hazelwood and Carter Holt Harvey workers and contractors QON - Northe to Minister for Regional Development our community can ill afford to see the early closure of our remaining power stations in the Latrobe Valley.
It would be reckless for Government Policy to influence the premature closure of our three remaining power stations. Given the evidence clearly shows that hundreds of former local workers and contractors have been identified as looking for work, it would be devastating for individuals, workers, families businesses and our community more generally if the same was allowed to occur again.
