Boat Ramp Studies Near CompletionStage Two of the Environmental Effects Statement (EES) into possible upgraded facilities for the ocean access at Bastion Point, Mallacoota, is nearing completion, according to the East Gippsland Shire Council. By East Gippsland Shire Council - 26th July 2005 - Back to News Council says that studies involving extensive consultation with the local community and various groups have formed an important part of the process.
These have included: the inter-tidal ecology; archaeology and cultural heritage issues; recreational amenity and visual values; the safety and risk’s associated with the current and future boating operations within the area and the social, economic and infrastructure impacts of the proposed project.
Mayor Cr Jane Rowe said the outcomes from these studies would be presented to Council in August.
"At this stage, there have been no decisions made by Council in regard to the future of the Bastion Point area," she said.
"Should the Council proceed with any proposal at Bastion Point, there will be a formal exhibition of the EES document, during which time comments and submissions will be sought.
"All Comments would then be considered by an independent panel that would make a recommendation to the Minister for Planning."
Cr Rowe said that if the Minister approved the EES process, it is effectively obtaining a planning permit for a proposal.
"However, it does not indicate if or when a proposal may be implemented," she said.
