Festivities And Entertainment In Store For Visiting Cyclists A huge welcome is in store for all Great Victorian Bike Ride cyclists and volunteers when they arrive in Latrobe City on Tuesday 27 November 2007. Over 4000 riders and volunteers are expected. By Latrobe City - 26th November 2007 - Back to News Riders and volunteers will be camping at the Yinnar Recreation Reserve overnight and are expected to begin arriving in Yinnar from around 12 noon. Latrobe City Council and the community of Yinnar will be hosting a festival in the main street of Yinnar from lunchtime until late on Tuesday.
An information booth at the entrance gate to the recreation reserve will be available for riders advising them of local attractions, services and entertainment. Many of the riders will choose to explore the Latrobe Valley during the afternoon. Suggested activities will be guided tours of Hazelwood Power Station and mine, Morwell National Park and the new exciting multimedia exhibition ‘Megawatt’. For many riders simply arriving at Yinnar will be enough of a cycling achievement for the day, and for them there will be plenty of festivities and activities within Yinnar township to enjoy.
There will be something for all ages in Yinnar on Tuesday including wine tasting, with designated alcohol areas; art exhibitions and live music. Local performances and entertainment will be provided by numerous bands including Stringbusters, The Sonar Tree and Kindred. The Latrobe Rockers will be demonstrating Rock and Roll and the crowd can also enjoy barefoot bowls. For children there will be loads of free fun activities such as face painting, jumping castles and plenty more.
A large variety of food and refreshments will be available throughout the township including hot dogs, fruit salad, fairy floss, pancakes, crepes and much more.
To ensure the safety of the community and riders during the overnight stay in Yinnar, the main street will be closed from primary school to the Yinnar Hotel drive-through; and Jumbuk Road from Monash Way to Main Street on Tuesday 27 November from 12 noon until 10.30pm. The road closures will be manned during those times and only emergency services and advised vehicles will be allowed access.
While the Yinnar entertainment and festivities are being provided specifically for the township community and participants in the Great Victorian Bike Ride, anyone in the community is welcome to attend. Please note road closures and potential limited parking availability.
