Latrobe City partnering with RDAC to support indigenous families in the Latrobe Valley

Specialist support and advice to the Koorie community.

Latrobe City Council’s Maternal and Child Health team has partnered with Ramahyuck District Aboriginal Corporation to now offer a MCH program from Koorie Maternity Services in Morwell.

Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Darrell White, said the service would provide specialist support and advice to the Koorie community.

"The service is located at 158 Mary Street, Morwell, open from 9am to 4.30pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. You can drop in to see the Maternal and Child Health nurse or make an appointment at a time that suits you.

"It’s important that we offer culturally appropriate support delivered by professional staff members and that the community feels comfortable accessing the service. The nurse can offer advice on parenting, health and wellbeing, and ensure families can access the range of referral services available. The MCH service is also supported by an Aboriginal Health Worker.

"Pregnancy and parenting can be challenging and we want our community to be able access appropriate support and care locally," Cr White said.
