Open Spaces Strategy

Public comment is currently being sought on Bass Coast Shire Council’s draft Open Spaces Strategy.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 9th August 2006 - Back to News

The Open Space Strategy is designed to ensure that functional open spaces, such as parks and reserves, are available across the Shire, whilst protecting the area’s local character and diversity.

Community involvement in development of the strategy dates back several years, when a series of meetings took place across the Shire in late 2004. In addition, over 500 residents responded to a survey on the topic.

Responding to calls for more functional open space and increased management, the strategy considers a number of issues. These include creation of open spaces in new developments and subdivisions, protecting our current environment and meeting the diverse recreational needs of our population and visitors.

The strategy will provide Council with a tool to assist in the planning and development of open space within the municipality.

Public input in this important process is vital to ensure that future plans and developments in the area preserve the unique attributes of Bass Coast, which make it such a desirable lifestyle choice and holiday destination.

A copy of the Strategy is available for perusal at all Customer Service Centres or by visiting the Council’s website at www.basscoast.vic.gov.au.

All comments should be in writing and addressed to the Arts and Leisure Coordinator, Jenny Churchill, Bass Coast Shire Council, PO Box 118, WONTHAGGI VIC 3995. Submissions must be received by 4pm, Friday 14 August 2006.
