Holiday Safe Program

Nissan Australia has proudly joined with the Victoria Police to launch a new safety package for the Gippsland area over the Christmas Holiday period.

By South Gippsland Shire Council - 17th December 2004 - Back to News

This promotion is to be known as ‘Holiday Safe Program’ Proudly supported by Nissan and aims to cover all aspects of safety and security over the Christmas Holiday period.

The goals of this campaign are;

  • Zero Road Toll
  • No drownings
  • No boating accidents
  • No lost trekkers
  • Reductions in theft of and theft from motor cars.

To achieve this goal, Police will be driving a Nissan X-TRAIL, generously supplied by the Nissan dealers of Gippsland, which will travel from Phillip Island to Mallacoota rewarding safe behaviour to people on the road, at beaches, boating, hiking etcetera.

Businesses from across the State have contributed to a huge pool of rewards prizes which range from food and refreshment vouchers, drinks, show bags and other promotional items that focus on the safety message.

The Nissan X-TRAIL will not only be seen on the roads, it will be on the beaches, shopping centre car parks, boat ramps, National Parks and other such areas where responsible behaviour will be rewarded. The rewards can include hats, sunscreen, water bottles, hiking safety packs, marine safety packs and the like.

Examples of the system are where a driver pulls over to use his mobile phone, a driver with all his children correctly seated and belted, boat operators with all the correct and up to date equipment, hikers properly equipped with compass, maps and the like. Do it right and be rewarded.

Other aspects of the program will include the use of the members of the Victoria Youth Development Program who will assist in handing out leaflets to parked vehicles reinforcing the Look Lock Leave program whose aim is to stop people openly leaving valuable items visible in their vehicles, and thus making them susceptible to theft. Other emergency services will be on hand to assist in areas where they also have an interest, i.e, the SES at remote areas where they assist in searches, rescues etcetera.

In launching the program Assistant Commissioner ASHBY said,

‘This is not just about the Police and a sponsor such as Nissan trying to create a safer Gippsland; this is about across the board community involvement in promoting a safer Victoria.’

‘This initiative will be widely covered by the generous support of Win TV and 3TR/3GV, along with local newspapers, and is one of the few times when Police will advertise where they will be!’

Footnote:

Win TV and 3TR/3TV and ABC Radio will be covering the program on a daily basis when possible to advertise the areas the car will be in for the next day.

A full list of supporting sponsors will be available on launch day.
