Four Schools In The Morwell Electorate To Gain Access To A World Class Digital Classroom Member for Morwell Russell Northe today announced four local schools will join the Victorian Government's Rural Video Conferencing Initiative. By Russell Northe - 8th January 2014 - Back to News Mr Northe said the Victorian Coalition Government‟s careful management of taxpayers‟ money had allowed a further 47 schools – in addition to the 75 schools announced late last year - to be connected to the state-of-the art „Polycom‟ video conference technology.
"Boolarra Primary School, Tobruk Street Primary School Morwell, Toongabbie Primary School and Yallourn North Primary School will be receiving the state of the art video conference technology worth $900,000."
Mr Northe said "Traditionally, students from remote rural schools haven‟t always enjoyed the same access to curriculum and learning opportunities as their metropolitan cousins.
"Video conferencing breaks down geographical barriers and opens new opportunities for students and teachers," Mr Northe said.
"Previously Cowwarr Primary School, Yinnar South Primary School and Kosciuszko Street Primary School Traralgon were successful in receiving the video conferencing technology."
Minister for Education Martin Dixon said the video conference technology includes a suite of virtual learning tools for students and teachers to collaborate and learn with others outside of their classroom and school.
It allows students to participate in virtual excursions to a range of Australian and international locations, and gives teachers access to a range of professional learning opportunities.
"These 47 schools will join more than 650 already on the network, which delivers truly world-class digital classroom technology to tens of thousands of students across rural and regional Victoria," Mr Dixon said.
"That is why we are so delighted to be announcing that even more schools will benefit from this technology, which breaks down geographical barriers and delivers a range of rich and easily accessibly educational opportunities for both students and teachers."
"Accessibility to high quality technological infrastructure is important to creating a world leading school system within 10 years and supporting all Victorians in their learning."
"Prudent financial management by the Victorian Coalition Government means quality services that Victorian families need and expect can be delivered," Mr Dixon said.
