Mr Hall said State Government grants of up to $5000 were available to youth groups and other organisations to conduct events during the April 9 to 17 celebration.

"I encourage young people in Gippsland to showcase their abilities and talents to the community by organising an event in their own area," he said.

Grants are available to local councils and community organisations, which have a youth focus, to plan and conduct a special event.

"Young people have an enormous amount to offer and we are very fortunate to have some talented, young performers in our communities. Youth Week is all about recognising the valuable role youth play in their town or city.

Mr Hall said young people could consider staging a concert, theatre production, art project or a sporting event as part of Youth Week which is a joint initiative between the State and Federal Governments.

Last year more than 75 events were held throughout the state.

Further information about National Youth Week and applying for a grant is available at www.grants.dvc.vic.gov.au. Applications for funding close on November 19.
