Help improve accessibility by considering to nominate to join Bass Coast Shire Council’s Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee.
Do you want to help improve access and inclusion for people with disability in Bass Coast?
Then consider nominating to join Bass Coast Shire Council’s Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee.
The Committee provides advice and guidance to Council and supports the development and implementation of Council’s Disability Action Plan. Nominations for the next two-year term of the Committee are now open, closing on Sunday, 4 August.
Nominees should have an understanding of the access and inclusion issues that affect people with a disability in Bass Coast and have the ability to provide useful insights and strategic advice.
Committee Chairperson, Cr Geoff Ellis invites community members or groups to step forward.
"People with disability face a range of access and inclusion challenges far different to those encountered by people without disability," Cr Ellis said.
"The Committee provides a vital role in our community, to help make Bass Coast accessible and inclusive for all people living with a disability.
"The Committee tackles varied and challenging issues facing our community and offers many opportunities to make a positive difference."
The Committee is made up of six community representatives and three representatives from community organisations and groups as well as Council officers and a Councillor. Community representatives volunteer their time and may be offered opportunities to attend relevant training or conferences to support them in their role.
Meetings are held every two months and support for people with disability to actively participate on the Committee can be provided.
