Agribusiness Scholarships Open Young people with an interest in developing their careers in agribusiness should consider applying for the Woolworths Agriculture Business Scholarship Program, By Russell Northe - 19th April 2011 - Back to News said Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe.
Applications for the program are currently open to young people, 20 to 30 years of age, employed in the agricultural or horticultural industry, or who had completed their first year of study at an agricultural or horticultural facility.
Mr Northe said the Liberal Nationals Coalition is focused on encouraging more young people to take up careers in agriculture and agribusiness.
"This scholarship program provides young people with an opportunity to gain valuable skills and a greater understanding of the industry", he said.
"Almost 120 students have been through this program, now in its fifth year, which is designed to nurture young leaders in the agribusiness sector.
"The program includes business strategy, finance, agricultural economics, and supply chain management and planning."
Run in conjunction with the University of Western Sydney and the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW, the 12 day course runs from Monday, August 8 to Friday, August 19 2011, and includes tours of distribution centres, group work and presentations from key leaders within the industry, including senior Woolworths managers.
"Participants also learn about the role of government, how to do business with retailers and how to take account of environmental and sustainability issues", said Mr Northe.
"The course has been specifically designed to be practical as well as theoretical, providing an opportunity to apply best practice ideas to your own real life experiences.
"The scholarship covers domestic travel to and from Sydney, accommodation and meals during the course."
Applications close on May 13 2011 and further information is available from the Woolworths Agricultural Business Scholarship link on www.woolworths.com.au, or by phoning Woolworths on 02 8885 9869, and successful applicants will be advised in early June.
