Taking Council To The People

THERE’S nothing like the mouthwatering smell of a sizzling barbie to warm the heart and chase the winter blues away.

By East Gippsland Shire Council - 22nd July 2004 - Back to News

East Gippsland Chief Executive Officer Steve Kozlowski expects a strong turnout for the Shire’s next Community Consultation, which includes a barbecue lunch courtesy of the Lions Club of Mallacoota, on Saturday 31 July.

Mr Kozlowski said the event would be held at the Mud Brick Pavilion, Mallacoota from 11.30am until 1.30pm, and everyone was welcome to attend.

"I urge all local residents to come along and meet their Councillors, share ideas and discuss any issues of concern over a barbecue lunch,’’ Mr Kozlowski said.

He said the Shire had been undertaking Community Consultations as a program since 1999, covering most of the outer lying areas of the municipality.

"It is a terrific program because it brings the Council to the people, especially those in isolated areas.

"Over the years, many issues have been discussed at Community Consultations and many problems have been solved as a result.

Mr Kozlowski said the Shire had received excellent feedback on the program.

"Residents and groups, who attended previous events, have said they really appreciated the Council taking such a proactive step and getting out into the community."

He said next Saturday’s event would be the first lunchtime Community Consultation the Shire has held on a weekend.

"I hope the timing will allow even more residents, families and groups to attend and make it a big community get together in Mallacoota," Mr Kozlowski said.
