Northe Highlights World Cancer Day 2020Significant improvements highlighted in World Cancer Day 2020. By Portal Admin - 18th February 2020 - Back to News Over the last 40 years, there have been significant improvements in screening, diagnosis, treatment and management of cancer, and the fight continues to make further improvements.
To recognise this, Member for Morwell Russell Northe is taking the opportunity on "World Cancer Day" to participate in the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre’s (VCCC) "I am And I Will’ pledge for 2020.
"Unfortunately many local families have been touched by cancer and it’s important that investment occurs in all aspects of eradicating this awful disease including in the research and development of improved outcomes for those contending with cancer" Mr Northe said.
"We are blessed to have the Gippsland Cancer Care Centre and Gippsland Rotary Centenary House in our region that in part helps support those going through cancer challenges. In addition a number of local cancer support groups and organisations do a wonderful job in providing information and assisting families where they can" Mr Northe added.
World Cancer Day is a global initiative with the aim to save millions of preventable deaths each year by continuing to raise awareness and education about cancer.
"Sadly one in two Victorians will get cancer in their lifetime, and one in five will die from this disease" said Mr Northe.
So today Mr Northe will pledge "I am an individual and I will learn more about cancer" Every Victorian is, has been and will be impacted by cancer in some way, this campaign is designed to be an empowering call to action so that together Victorians can reach the target of reducing the number of premature deaths from cancer.
"On World Cancer Day I encourage those who have been affected to share their stories in the hopes of raising awareness to those around them" Mr Northe said.
