Boating Action For Coronet Bay

Bass Coast Shire Council has engaged a consultant to prepare a Boating Action Plan for Coronet Bay.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 13th May 2009 - Back to News

Council’s Environment Manager, Paul Smith, said consultant GHD will be putting the plan together.

"Council has asked GHD to do a feasibility study on providing recreational boating facilities, including a ramp, for the Coronet Bay area," explained Mr Smith.

"The study will include three or four options for Council to consider. It will provide the approximate costs for each option, as well as outlining the potential positive and negative impacts."

Katherine Masters from GHD, met with Mr Smith, Cr Veronica Dowman and members of the Coronet Bay Boating and Anglers Association at the end of last month.

"The meeting was an opportunity to inspect the site for a potential new boat ramp," said Cr Dowman.

"It was also a chance to discuss the history and functionality of the existing boat ramp that unfortunately only has access through private property."

Mr Smith said he expected the Boating Action Plan would go to the June or July Council meeting for consideration.

"Once Council have endorsed the Plan, it will go on public exhibition, with copies available in Coronet Bay," explained Mr Smith.

"This will give the broader community a chance to comment on the plan and any proposed works."

Works proposed under the Boating Action Plan are expected to be funded by a combination of Government grants and Council funds. The timeline for the project will be subject to grant allocations and the normal statutory approval process.
