Callum Moscript calls on Andrews Labor government to fund addressing of dangerous Leongatha South intersection
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O'Brien has urged the state government to provide funding to fix a dangerous intersection at Leongatha South.
In state parliament this week, Mr O'Brien called on the government to provide funding for the realignment of the intersection of Bass Highway and Leongatha South-Outtrim Road, which has been the scene of a number of accidents including fatalities over recent years.

Needs funding to proceed
Mr O'Brien said, "This intersection was the scene of further accidents over summer and is in need of work. Although the road is predominately straight, those turning right into Outtrim Road don't have a turning lane and a small hill makes visibility towards Leongatha difficult. After lobbying some years ago, Regional Roads Victoria installed a left turning lane but there is further work that is needed."
Mr O'Brien said he understands that Regional Roads Victoria has plans for the realignment of the intersection, which also includes neighbouring Roughheads Road, but does not have the funding to proceed.
Fix our local roads
Mr O'Brien said, "We know that the Bass Highway between Leongatha and Inverloch is narrow, with no shoulders and has been the scene of a number of accidents over recent years. This intersection is one of the worst parts of it and I'm calling on the government to allocate funding to ensure it can be upgraded."
"We have many dangerous stretches of road around Gippsland and the road surface itself in many areas continues to be a cause for concern. I will maintain an ongoing campaign to fix our local roads and am urging the government to get on and address the issues at Leongatha South." Mr O'Brien said.
