Creative Edge Program To Inspire Youth

Starting on Tuesday 3 May at the Latrobe Regional Gallery, the Creative Edge youth art program is designed to encourage teens, aged 13 to 15 years, to explore their creativity.

Latrobe City’s arts director, Julie Adams, said that the classes would provide an opportunity for young people to learn new skills and share ideas with each other.

"The nine week program in term two will encourage the development and expansion of visual arts skills in a relaxed atmosphere. Teens aged between 13 and 15 years will work on a variety of mixed media to create textural works. The classes cater for all levels and abilities.

"Materials are supplied, but participants may wish to bring along any objects they find that may be appropriate to use during the course of the program.

"These sequential sessions will encourage participants to develop ideas outside the confines of the classroom through drawing and journals, so that they further develop their creativity," Ms Adams said.

Art work produced by participants in the term one Creative Edge program is currently on display at the Latrobe Regional Gallery, Creative Edge children’s exhibition space.

The Creative Edge youth program runs at Latrobe Regional Gallery on Tuesdays from 5pm to 6.30pm from 3 May to 28 June. The nine week program costs $100, or $90 for Friends members. Places are limited and bookings and payment must be made by Friday 29 April 2011.
