Airport Board says thank-you

150 people working at the Latrobe Regional Airport braved chilly winter winds last week to attend a barbecue and accept a sincere ‘thank-you’ from the Airport Board

By Latrobe City Council - 3rd September 2003 - Back to News

Board Chairman Richard Hancock said that Latrobe Regional Airport was a key Latrobe City employment precinct and a significant community in its own right.

"Few people realise just how many people earn a livelihood at the Airport. Taking into account the many activities taking place here, there are around 150 people working at the airport - business people, their employees and our own Board staff and contractors," Mr Hancock explained.

"We wanted to give the Airport community a chance to get together and for us to say ‘thank-you’ for the contribution everybody makes to the success of this facility," Mr Hancock said.

"There are many diverse activities ranging from industrial interests to emergency services and sports and recreational pursuits. Companies such as Gippsland Aeronautics, Helimed 1, Latrobe Valley Aero Club and the Latrobe Valley Gliding Club all trade or operate here at the airport; and getting all personnel together was a key part of the occasion," Mr Hancock explained.

"The group photograph taken on the taxiway with people, helicopters and aircraft was an inspiring sight, and we hope this get-together becomes an annual event so that the wider Latrobe community can see how much the Airport grows from year to year," Mr Hancock concluded.
