Your Art On Show

Sixty seven pieces of artwork by 42 artists will be on show during May when Bass Coast Shire Council’s public art collection is exhibited at Coalfields Art Gallery in Wonthaggi.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 21st April 2009 - Back to News

Council’s Arts Officer, Josephine Kent, said the exhibition is an opportunity to see the art collection on show in the one place.

"Council doesn’t have a permanent home to show its art collection. Pieces usually grace the foyers and walls of Council buildings," said Ms Kent.

"This exhibition means people can come and view most of Bass Coast’s public art collection in the one place. We have a couple of pieces that are too big to be moved, so they won’t form part of the exhibition.

"Most of the pieces on show Council has purchased to support the artists or local art shows. Around 60 per cent of the art is by local artists.

"This art belongs to the Bass Coast community and Council, along with Coalfields Art Gallery, is extremely proud to be able to show it through this exhibition," explained Ms Kent.

The exhibition will run at the Coalfields Art Gallery, 140 McKenzie Street, Wonthaggi, from
2 - 26 May. The gallery is open Thursday to Monday, 11am to 5pm.
