G’day bus plies Takasago streets

Thousands of Japanese visitors who came to Sydney for the 2000 Olympic Games would have seen the Latrobe City New Energy posters on the back windows of buses

Thousands of Japanese visitors who came to Sydney for the 2000 Olympic Games would have seen the Latrobe City New Energy posters on the back windows of buses carrying competitors to the various Olympic venues; and the posters became a familiar sight on the rear windows of the buses once they returned to the Latrobe Valley. One particular poster stood out in the eyes of Japanese visitors, the poster bearing a graphic of a Sumo wrestler, which carried an accompanying message about Latrobe being a Sister City of Takasago in Japan.

Not to be outstaged, Takasago’s new community bus has been emblazoned with a koala in a gum tree, the Latrobe City logo, the word G’day, and a message announcing Takasago’s Sister City status with Latrobe City in Australia since 2000.

Latrobe City Deputy Mayor, Councillor Tony Hanning said the friendship between Takasago was energetic and growing. "We were delighted to receive photographs of the new community bus which is used to provide services to Takasago to people of all abilities, and know our own students and any other visitors from Latrobe who see the bus on Takasago streets will give a cheery wave, and no doubt call out G’day," Cr Hanning said.
