Celebrate Australia Day in Latrobe City
There are plenty of free events and activities across Latrobe City for families to enjoy on Australia Day, Thursday 26 January. And all Latrobe City outdoor pools will offer free entry!
Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Kellie O’Callaghan said that the tradition of Australia Day breakfasts would continue."Who doesn’t love a snag for brekkie on Australia Day morning? It’s a wonderful ritual to enjoy a flag-raising ceremony, sing the anthem and then feast on a barbecued breakfast. It’s a great way to meet your local community and to mark the occasion with like-minded individuals.
"This year, there will be free breakfasts at Boolarra, Callignee, Churchill, Moe, Morwell, Toongabbie, Traralgon, Yallourn North and Yinnar. If you’ve never attended one before, why not make Australia Day 2017 your first visit?" Cr O’Callaghan said.
"Australia Day also marks the first of our citizenship ceremonies of the year. The ceremony will take place during the Civic Function at Kernot Hall, Morwell from 1pm and we will be welcoming our newest citizens as they take their pledge of allegiance.
The ceremony is followed by the announcement of our Australia Day Awards winners, including Citizen of the Year. Everyone is welcome to attend this community event.
"The outdoor pools at Traralgon, Moe and Yallourn North will be open and offer free entry and heaps of activities for families. Traralgon is open 10am to 8pm and the two other pools will open 12 noon to 7pm, unless the temperature is above 32 degrees, in which case they will open from 11am.
"However you mark the occasion, I wish you and your family well on Australia Day. It’s a day of reflection, of celebration, of community. Please stay safe and enjoy your day," Cr O’Callaghan concluded.
