Get Creative About Your Bass Coast

Bass Coast Shire Council is looking for a catch phrase to describe the unique lifestyle of Bass Coast.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 12th June 2007 - Back to News

It is hoping to find the perfect phrase, with help from residents, ratepayers, schools, businesses and community groups.

Council’s Community and Economic Development Director, Richard Perry said Council was calling for suggestions for a catch phrase to use in promotions and publications.

"A lot of regions have developed a phrase as a short, easy way to capture the essence of the area," explained Mr Perry.

"It would be wonderful to have something similar for Bass Coast and we are very keen to get the community’s input."

Mr Perry said that many adjoining shires already had catch phrases, which worked extremely well for them.

"South Gippsland use the line ‘come for the beauty, stay for the lifestyle’, to promote the benefits of moving into that area," said Mr Perry.

"Another example would be LaTrobe, who use the phrase ‘A new energy’, which evokes not just their history of coal and electricity production, but also points to a vital future.

Mr Perry said recent surveys have shown that quality family life and the beauty of the natural environment are some of the key reasons why people love to live in Bass Coast.

"However other things to reflect on include recreation opportunities, tourism, the emerging arts community, business opportunities, the rural and coastal landscape and the feeling of safety," Mr Perry noted.

"There are many, many reasons why people love to live here.

"We know there will be some imaginative and creative ideas out there and I encourage everyone to send in an entry."

Submissions must be received by 30 June 2007 and ideally, shouldn’t be more than around 4 or 5 words long.

Entry forms are available at all Bass Coast Customer Service Centres and from the website at www.basscoast.vic.gov.au. Forms can also be found in the Bass Coast Shire Update advertisement in your local newspaper.
