Tambo Waste developed glass processing facility in Bairnsdale to maximise opportunities in recycled glassEver wondered what happens to your recycled glass bottles? Well, in East Gippsland they are now part of footpaths! By news@gippsland - 11th November 2021 - Back to News Local company Tambo Waste, East Gippsland Shire Council's kerbside waste collection contractor, has developed a glass processing facility in Bairnsdale to maximise the opportunities to keep product local, create new opportunities for recycling and boost the economy.
Mayor Cr Mark Reeves, Simon Fountain (Tambo Waste), Jason Cross(Terra Firma Industries), Deputy Mayor Cr Arthur Allen and Paul Hadden (Riviera Concrete) with the recycled processed glass being used in concrete for local footpaths Glass to concreteMayor Cr Mark Reeves and Deputy Mayor Cr Arthur Allen visited Riviera Concrete in Bairnsdale this week - National Recycling Week - to hear more about the project. b"It's an amazing project by a local company in Tambo Waste, which is collaborating with other local businesses to make a difference to not only our economy but also the environment." "Instead of carting glass recyclables all the way to Melbourne, what Tambo Waste is doing is effectively crushing that glass into a fine sand for concrete." Cr Mark Reeves said. The glass used is collected from kerbside recycling and is processed at a purpose-built plant in Bairnsdale. It is tested locally by Terra Firma Industries. Riviera Concrete is pleased to be part of the trial by including it in their mixes for footpath concrete. "Congratulations from the shire and we're looking forward to being able to use this in our projects right across the shire in the future," Cr Reeves said.
