Lake Narracan Likely To Experience Low Winter Levels

Unprecedented low flows in the Latrobe River system may result in reduced water levels in Lake Narracan during the winter months, Latrobe City has warned.

By Latrobe City - 24th April 2007 - Back to News

Latrobe City’s manager arts and leisure, Paul Holton, said that while competition water skiing is unlikely to be affected as the Latrobe Valley Waterski Club has a break from competition during winter, some impact for recreational users may be experienced.

"Lake Narracan on the Latrobe River north of Moe is a relatively small storage (some 8,000ML) holding water entitlements for a number of the power generators in the Latrobe Valley as well as being a popular recreational facility," Mr Holton explained.

"Normally, Lake Narracan is held at around 75% of its capacity, which meets the needs of recreational users, particularly for boating and water skiing activities, and other downstream users. Rarely have local power generators needed to draw down their entitlements in Lake Narracan, but this season will see that need arise.

"Signage to inform recreational boat users at the Lake is being installed and council will update the community on water levels and access during the season," Mr Holton added.
