The weekend of 9th and 10th June 2001 saw the Edison Mission Energy Latrobe Valley Baseball Association Senior Representative Team travel to Ballarat to contest the 2001 Victorian Provincial Championships.

The squad was extremely successful performing well right through the championship. In typically cold Ballarat weather that often included rain. A rescheduling of games disadvantaged the team. They played one two and a half hour game Saturday morning, one two hour game Sunday, followed by three games on Monday including the final.

The Latrobe Valley performed extremely consistently over the entire weekend finishing on top of the ladder. They defeated North East 8-2, Sunrasia 8-0, drew with City 4-4, and edged out Bendigo 5-4. The final was a low scoring tense contest that saw our boys go down 6-3 resulting in North East’s first championship since 1962. Unfortunately two games on the Monday followed by a final was too much to ask for, but the boys went down fighting.

The Latrobe Valley squad success was emphasized with three players named to the championship all-star team. Congratulations to Brendon Date (Pitcher), Brad Pratt (Designated Hitter), and Heath Warren (Centre Field). This week the under 16 squad travels to Mildura to compete in the Victorian Provisional Championships whilst the under 12 squad begins training this Saturday at 11:00 am in Traralgon.
