Melbourne Heart Returns To Latrobe City This WeekMelbourne Heart FC will renew its bond with Latrobe City once again by hosting the Westpac Community Football Festival this week. By Latrobe City - 19th August 2011 - Back to News The Hyundai A-League side will arrive in the town on August 18 for the start of the three-day football extravaganza, which includes a practice match against Hyundai A-League side Newcastle Jets at the Latrobe City Sports and Entertainment Stadium of Friday, 19 August kicking off at 7.30pm.
After failing to down Newcastle during last year’s match-up in Morwell, Heart is keen to avenge the loss in front of a full house at the Latrobe City Sports and Entertainment Stadium.
The Westpac Community Football Festival will also see Heart engage with the local football and business community through a series of clinics and events, courtesy of Westpac’s local network of branches.
Westpac’s ‘Coach the Coach’ program is set to be one of the highlights of the festival, with Heart Head Coach John van ‘t Schip and Assistant Ante Milicic holding a seminar educating local football clubs on the latest tactical and technical innovations in the game.
Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Darrell White welcomes the return of Melbourne Heart saying that they will be well received by the community.
"This is exciting news for sports fans in the region and a great opportunity for our local sports clubs and budding young athletes to learn from some of our Australian soccer stars.
"Last year’s festival was a spectacular success and we are excited to once again be hosting such a fantastic sporting event here in Latrobe City," Cr White said.
Heart Chief Executive Officer Scott Munn revealed the Club is excited to be bringing the Hyundai A-League back to Latrobe City.
"The success of last year’s Westpac Community Football Festival in Latrobe City proved without doubt that the region is all heart," he said.
"We look forward to renewing our relationship with the region during this weeks events, which once again promises to be a wonderful celebration of football in an area renowned for its rich round ball history,
"Through our partnership with Westpac, the Club is delighted to return to the region and again host the Newcastle Jets at the Latrobe City Sports and Entertainment Stadium in a showpiece match," Mr Munn said.
Westpac Morwell Bank Manager, Linda Christie said: "We are really excited to be able to help bring Melbourne Heart FC and elite football to the Gippsland community.
"One of the reasons Westpac partnered with the team is their focus on taking football to regional communities. The Gippsland festival will feature as part of a month of fantastic regional football activity across Victoria," Ms Christie said.
"By encouraging Latrobe’s youngsters to take up soccer, Melbourne Heart will be making a wonderful contribution to sport in Latrobe and investing in the youth of our community who have become endeared to the game.
