Free offer for fire-hit farmers Well-established forestry products company Pinegro has offered free compost for farmers who have soils damaged by fires. By Susan Webster - 6th April 2009 - Back to News The offer through Agribusiness Gippsland would form the basis of trials comparing the compost product with other forms of soil improvement treatments.
Pinegro is able to make its carbon compost available to farmers who might wish to restore organic matter and its associated biological activity to their properties.
Pinegro’s Michael Rogers explains: "Our carbon compost product would be available at no charge from our Monash Way site in Morwell.
"Farmers who need assistance with transport should contact us to see if we can make a suitable arrangement for them.
"The carbon compost can be used as a top dressing to assist with reducing soil erosion potential or preferably incorporated into the soil profile to improve soil structure and nutrient retention.
"A manure type spreader should be suitable for spreading the compost or we can supply the contact information for a contract spreader. Product information is available and can be supplied to farmers when discussing possible applications.
"We hope that Pinegro is able to support farmers with their recovery from the fires."
