Marion Martin, ‘The Flower Of Scotland’, Comes To TraralgonAffectionately known as ‘The Flower of Scotland’, Marion Martin is as symbolically Scottish as heather, hogmanay and haggis; and with the incredible spirit that has seen her success last for decades By Latrobe City Council - 14th July 2009 - Back to News This dynamic performer will no doubt rouse the audience at the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre on Wednesday 22 July 2009.
Latrobe City’s coordinator, performing arts and venues, Kathleen Roberts said that Marion performs with a fire and a passion that belies her angelic beauty breathing new life into everything she sings.
"Her concerts are a sparkling cocktail of champagne musical memories featuring many of the world famous Scottish songs she has recorded so successfully. On stage she is the consummate entertainer - stunning, captivating, witty and warm.
"Her amazing vocal range is showcased in hilarious impersonations of show biz icons. Her disposition is as sweet as heather but her dynamic performance of Scotland’s most famous songs is simply electrifying; but it is the rare quality and haunting beauty of her sublime voice that reaches deep into the soul and stays there," Ms Roberts explained.
Marion’s Scottish roots go deep. She was born in Glasgow. Her maternal grandfather William Richardson of Fyfe served as an officer in The Scots Grays and her father Daniel, born and raised in Campbeltown on the Argyll peninsula, served in the Black Watch. He became a prisoner of war and Marion maintains she learnt much from him about survival, independence and improvisation.
"Scottish spirit beats fiercely in this powerful nationalistic music. Twenty hugely successful albums (they have been selling non-stop world wide for thirty years), countless television appearances and thousands of concerts attest to just how successful Marion Martin has become since the child of four who first ‘trod the boards’ at Glasgow’s Empire Theatre," Ms Roberts concluded.
Marion Martin will perform at the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre on Wednesday 22 July from 11am. Tickets are available from the Box Office on 5176 3559.
