Quarterstone rock their way to the top of Battle of the BandsYouth band Quarterstone rocked the socks off judges to become the proud winners of Battle of the Bands 2005 at the Sale Memorial Hall on Friday 16th September. By Wellington Shire Council - 30th September 2005 - Back to News The event which is part of a state-wide competition run by The Push- a non-profit, state wide youth entertainment organisation and supported by Wellington Shire Council, proved to be popular with around 200 people attending.
Quarterstone, who were runner’s up at last years Battle of the Bands said that it was great to go one better and win this year: "a big relief that our hard work paid off."
The talented members of Quarterstone, who are all 17, are: Jesse Norris on drums, Jake Lees on guitar, Jordan Walker on bass and Lynton Simkin on vocals.
Drummer Jesse Norris said:" Winning Battle of the Bands means we get to go onto the regional finals to be held in Warragul on 22nd October.
"If we win that we will get to play at Luna Park in Melbourne, which would be great!"
He said that the band liked to play a variety of music, but mainly their sound could be described as diverse rock.
Currently the boys rehearse at least once a week but like to rehearse more if they can fit it in around their busy school schedules. m/f…
Wellington Shire Youth Development Officer David Roberts said: "It was a really good night. The bands were all fantastic.
"I was particularly impressed with the first band of the evening ‘Oblivious,’ comprising of year 7 or 8 students-they just did a fantastic job."
Mr Roberts said he hoped more bands would enter next year’s competition.
"Next year we are thinking about breaking the night into two different sections and awarding a prize for most talented debut band as well as an overall winner.
"Hopefully this will attract new bands to come and have a go, which is essentially what the competition is about."
Wellington’s Chief Executive Officer Lyndon Webb said: "I congratulate Quarterstone on the outstanding achievement of winning the Battle of the Bands competition and thank all the bands that entered for their contribution to a great youth activity."
