E-Wheels for Wellington Council Internet Service

$10,264 in funding to install an Internet service to its mobile library

By Karen Gregory - 10th June 2002 - Back to News

Wellington Council is about to make its Internet service mobile.

The Council has secured $10,264 funding to install an Internet service to its mobile library.

Very shortly, more than 17,000 members of the community who rely upon the mobile library will be able to enjoy the same level of Internet service as the Shire currently provides in its branch libraries.

The State Government funding has been secured from the "Beyond the branches" grant program and forms part of Council’s drive to increase Internet access facilities to remote and rural areas.

"We currently operate a mobile service to Loch Sport, Golden Beach, Seaspray, Coongulla, Gormandale, Cowwarr and Briagalong," said Wellington Chief Executive Officer Lyndon Webb.

"We recently extended our mobile library into a semi-trailer to create additional space, which we can now use to provide a public Internet service."

The cheque was presented to the Shire by Member for East Gippsland, Craig Ingram.
