Northe calls for greater support for regional small businesses
Queries about small businesses that has not been answered by the government
Russell Northe has called upon the State Government and its Departments to give regional small businesses greater support by using their services where possible.
Member for Morwell, Russell Northe has called upon the State Government and its Departments to give regional small businesses greater support by using their services where possible. Mr Northe said he was dismayed that the State Government had confirmed earlier this year that local dry-cleaners who previously provided services to Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) personnel would have their services withdrawn, particularly given many of these same businesses had experienced many hardships during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Worried about regional industries
Mr Northe said he was now worried other agencies including Ambulance Victoria (AV) might be going down a similar pathway. "Regional businesses have already suffered enough and the decision to cease using the services of local dry-cleaners for FRV personnel made no logical sense. To think the Government might be considering extending this ridiculous decision to AV personnel would be a real kick in the guts to many regional businesses."
Procure goods and services
Mr Northe commenced, "There is no logic in taking work away from local businesses when these same businesses have been providing professional services to Government organisations for many years. The Government continually states that it’s a great supporter of regional businesses but at the same time they are allowing the cessation of services provided by our local business community."
"Wherever possible, Government Departments and agencies that are based in regional communities should procure goods and services from local businesses but unfortunately we are seeing examples where this is not the case and that is completely unacceptable." Mr Northe concluded.
Questions sent for the government
Mr Northe has submitted questions on Notice in the State Parliament in seeking a reply from the Minister for Ambulance Services. Details can be found in the above link and please note the Minister has 30 days to respond from the date of submission. Mr Nathan Theissling from Traralgon Dry Cleaning Services is available for comment on these same matters at mobile number 0409 110 655.
Small businesses also provide professional services that we need to use whenever possible to help support them
