Prepare Yourselves For Spontaneous BroadwayThe improvised hit show ‘Spontaneous Broadway’ comes to the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre in Traralgon on Thursday 22 October from 8pm and it’s bound to be a blast. By Latrobe City Council - 21st October 2009 - Back to News Latrobe’s coordinator performing arts and venues, Kathleen Roberts, said that Spontaneous Broadway began its Australian life at the 2000 Melbourne Fringe Festival where it won the special judges award and has since been performed in venues around the country.
"It’s all about improvisation and every night a new hilarious musical is created from song titles written by the audience. Solos, duets, dance numbers and plot lines are improvised before your eyes. The audience’s favourite is then performed as an entire musical by the team of improv all-stars.
"The cast includes Russell Fletcher (Thank God You’re Here; Lano and Woodley), Geoff Paine (Neighbours), Ross Daniels (The Wedge), Rebecca De Unamuno (Comedy Inc; Chasers War On Everything), John Thorn (Billy Elliot) and Trina Gilchrist and together they encourage the audience to shine.
"They implore the crowd to provide an original song title at the beginning of the show. They select six titles and perform them spontaneously. The audience then gets to vote for one musical to watch in the second half all based on the selected song title. There’s a prize up for grabs for the lucky audience ‘composer’," Kathleen explained.
"It’s a fantastic way to spend an evening, enjoying all the fun bits of musical theatre with the hilarity of improvisation and a stellar cast of creative actors," Kathleen concluded.
Spontaneous Broadway was originally created by Kat Koppett and performed by the New York and Bay Area (San Francisco) Theatresports companies. It is performed in Australia under exclusive licence.
The show will be performed at the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre on Thursday 22 October from 8pm. Tickets are available from the Box Office on 5176 3559.
