OpeN forum to improve planning.

Stronger partnerships have been formed between aged service providers and community groups across the shire as a result of the older persons network (OpeN) forum held earlier this month.

The Baw Baw Health & Wellbeing network instigated the forum to consider the establishment of a network group to guide and streamline communication and planning across Baw Baw Shire for aged service providers, said council’s manager of aged and disability services Heidi Losic-Smith.

"There was a broad section of service providers who attended the forum including representatives from council, healthcare providers, aged care facilities and state government departments along with community representation from Probus, Lions and Lionesses and senior citizens clubs across Baw Baw Shire," said Ms Losic-Smith.

"Working group sessions were held at the forum to consider how the network can move forward, who should be involved and how to best represent the Baw Baw community.

"Key priority areas for Baw Baw Shire have been identified including physical activity, nutrition, mental health, safety and the implementation of the aged services plan," said Ms Losic-Smith.

A steering committee has been established to guide the network through the next phase of this model.
