Pirates And Sailors

Pirates and sailors will greet Federal Member for Gippsland, The Hon Peter McGauran when he arrives at the Metung Boardwalk next Friday.

By Mike Quist - 6th November 2006 - Back to News

Officials say that the group from the Metung Primary School is not classed as a security threat and will be looking only for ice cream, not ‘booty.’

And this will be their ‘prize’ for escorting the minister 400 metres to the point where he will officially open the new boardwalk.

Peter McGauran will arrive at the northern ‘town entry’ end of the new boardwalk when the motor cruiser The Director pulls up at the Riviera Nautic Marina at 11.00 am.

Together with the pirates, sailors, official guests and members of the public the minister will take the first official stroll along the $747,000 boardwalk that was jointly funded by the Australian Government and East Gippsland Shire Council.

As part of the opening ceremony Peter McGauran will also unveil a commemorative plaque.
