Tank rebate extended

Residents can receive a $450 rebate when purchasing rainwater tanks at properties connected to South East Water or Gippsland Water.

By Baw Baw Shire Council - 3rd July 2006 - Back to News

Baw Baw Shire Council has extended the tank rebate program until 30 June 2007, according to council mayor Ian Clark.

"Householders connected to town water will be eligible for the rebate that can save hundreds of litres of water per year," said Cr Clark.

"Over 70 residents have installed rainwater tanks and received the rebate – that means that they have collectively saved over 42,000 litres of water per year.

"This is an excellent result but the more residents who install tanks, the more water we will save," said Cr Clark.

"UNESCO has predicted that by the 2020 water shortage will be a serious worldwide problem, we need to all take steps to try and address this trend."

To obtain council’s rainwater tank rebate, householders first need to apply for a rebate of $150 from their town water supplier.

Once Gippsland Water or South East Water has approved the rebate, council will provide an additional $300 for the purchase and installation of a rainwater tank.
