By Wellington Shire Council - 9th September 2005 - Back to News

About 50 Year 7 students from Sale College and Sale Catholic College will attend two workshops of the popular Pop Fiction, which will be in Gippsland as part of a national tour.

Wellington’s Mayor Peter Gault said: "Pop Fiction is about young people using multimedia to make art that’s related to a selected book and the workshops focus on storytelling in all its forms - print, digital, audio and visual.

"The workshops have been designed to be very interactive and geared to what teenagers like and said they wanted – pop culture and animation."

Students will be seated at PCs and interact with the others in the room, as well as online with other sites, while loud rock music plays in the background.

"During the workshops, the students will be surrounded and inspired by an exhibition of Pop Fiction artwork and multimedia featuring illustrated shop mannequins, illustrated vinyl record covers, 3D models and animated music video clip/interactive multimedia."

Cr Gault said the aim was to get young people truly excited about books and reading.

"This is an excellent initiative to encourage our young people to discover the wonderful world of books and multimedia in a creative way."
