World’S Best To WonthaggiSome of the world’s best films by, with and about people with disability will be shown at the Wonthaggi Union Community Arts Centre next month By Bass Coast - 18th November 2010 - Back to News , as part of the International Day of People with Disability celebrations.
The selection of short films from The Other Film Festival 2010 will screen on Sunday, 5 December 2010 from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.
Bass Coast Shire Council’s Community Strengthening Manager, Antoinette Mitchell, said the films showed in Melbourne in August this year.
"Tickets for this festival in Melbourne were up to $120 each," said Ms Mitchell. "We’re putting on this festival for free to celebrate International Day of People with Disability.
"International Day of People with Disability celebrates the achievements, contributions and insights of people with disabilities: this film afternoon is testament to those abilities.
"The films are entertaining and thought provoking and we are extremely lucky to have such a fantastic event here in Wonthaggi.
"RuralAccess staff from Bass Coast and South Gippsland Shire Councils are working together to host this event," said Ms Mitchell.
This is a completely accessible event as all films are captioned or subtitled. Films will also be audio described to ensure greater access for people who are blind or have low vision.
The event will be Auslan interpreted for people with hearing impairments and the venue is wheelchair friendly.
"Tickets are limited, so be sure to book your tickets early," continued Ms Mitchell.
Bubbles and finger food will be served prior to the films commencing at 1.30pm.
