Nominate Now For The 2015 'Having A Say' Conference
Bass Coast Shire Council will sponsor two people to attend the Having a Say Conference, held from 4 to 6 February 2015 in Geelong.
The conference is organised by the Victorian Advocacy League for Individuals with Disability.
It provides people with disability the opportunity to ‘have a say’ about issues that affect their lives and to develop strategies to address these issues.
The conference theme for 2015 is ‘Change Your Future’ which is about people with a disablilty talking to each other, speaking out together and demanding to be heard.
Bass Coast Shire Council’s Acting General Manager Healthy Communities, Jamie Sutherland, said that Council will sponsor two Shire residents with a disability to attend the Conference.
People wishing to nominate have until Friday, 14 November 2014, to submit a Nomination Form. Council will fund the registration fee, accommodation and a small food allowance for the two successful nominations.
Mr Sutherland explained that there are approximately 6,200 people with disability living in the Shire.
"People with a disability from all around Australia and the world will be sharing their stories, ideas and achievements as individuals and groups through presentations, performances and conducting workshops," Mr Sutherland said.
"We hope the sponsored delegates will come back with some fresh ideas and renewed enthusiasm to assist with continuing to improve access and inclusion for everyone living and visiting the Shire."
Applications close at 5.00pm on Friday, 14 November 2014.
