Final Fire Operations Plan Released

The Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) has released the final Fire Operations Plan for the region.

By Department of Sustainability and Environment - 11th November 2004 - Back to News

Draft plans have been available to the public at DSE offices around the region since July and the Department has encouraged the community to make comment and be involved in the planning of burning operations.

Regional Fire Manager, David Tainsh said that while individual community input has not been as great as expected, there has been some valuable response from CFA brigades in particular, whose local knowledge will assist in planning the most effective and safe burns for the next three years.

"We have tried to ensure that everyone has been offered the opportunity to have their say on the planning of burns in the region," Mr Tainsh said.

"Consultation with the community has been thorough and has ranged from formal meetings with CFA brigade members to informal discussion with groups of landholders and individuals.

"DSE Fire Management staff value the good working relationships and sharing of knowledge and expertise that they have with the CFA brigades in the region.

"Their input into the Fire Operations Plan will help us to plan burns that achieve the best results for community protection and for environmental needs over the next three years."

The Fire Operations Plan is used in accordance with the Gippsland Region Fire Protection Plan to determine the way public land is managed to effectively reduce fire hazards and help protect both public and private land from wildfires.
