Pipeline upgrade for Wy Yung water storage facility
Work has just got underway on the latest upgrade to East Gippsland Water's major water storage facility at Wy Yung.
The project involves the realignment of around 500 metres of water pipeline - mostly within the water storage site itself - and is expected to take approximately three months to complete. This is part of an ongoing program of works being undertaken to maintain the long term efficiency and reliability of the Mitchell River water supply system. A minor impact on motorists and pedestrians using Woodward Street, and the adjacent section of Bullumwaal Road, is anticipated during the latest works. No interruption to the local water supply is expected.
East Gippsland Water's Managing Director, Bruce Hammond, said, "We would like to thank neighbouring residents and others impacted for their patience and cooperation.
"The full program of upgrades for the Wy Yung facility encompasses a number of initiatives over the next couple of years. Importantly, there will be the ability to bypass the current water storage at any time if necessary - for example to carry out maintenance work - and avoid interruption to water services."
Another project which is nearing completion at the facility is the construction of two, 400 kilolitre water storage tanks. The opportunity is also being taken to address a leak in the covered water storage liner at Wy Yung. In addition, East Gippsland Water is investigating refurbishment of the second storage basin at the Wy Yung site which is currently empty.
The Wy Yung facility receives and stores water from the water treatment plant at Woodglen, for supply to 24,000 customers along the Mitchell River supply system, between the Bairnsdale area and Nowa Nowa - including Paynesville, Bruthen and Lakes Entrance.
Customers with any queries about the Wy Yung works should contact East Gippsland Water on 1800 671 841.
