Linfox Decision

Last night, Bass Coast Shire Council considered the development application from the Linfox Property Group.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 17th August 2006 - Back to News

Last night, Bass Coast Shire Council considered the development application from the Linfox Property Group for a Resort on Phillip Island, consisting of a golf course, 506 apartments and recreational facilities on the land adjacent to the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit.

Following the rejection of the Council officers’ recommendation to refuse a permit for the development in its current form, a motion to grant a permit was put forward

The motion, subject to 68 conditions, was debated and ultimately deferred until Council’s next meeting on 20 September 2006. This will enable Councillors to consider the draft permit conditions to ensure that all issues raised by Council officers and submitters have been addressed.

Bass Coast’s Chief Executive Officer Allan Bawden said the decision to defer was an appropriate one.

"This is a major development proposal," said Mr Bawden.

"Council wants to ensure that the appropriate conditions are placed on any permit issued."

Mr Bawden said that in not supporting the officers’ recommendation to refuse the permit, Council felt that granting of a permit could be considered with appropriate conditions attached.

"Based on the original proposal, Council officers raised concerns that it did not fully comply with state and local planning policies," said Mr Bawden.

"But it was acknowledged that many of these concerns could be overcome with design modifications.

"These issues are addressed in the 68 conditions the permit is subject to."
