Tourism For Beginners SeminarA three-hour seminar for people starting out in the tourism industry is to be held on five occasions in Melbourne from March to November. By East Gippsland Shire Council - 8th March 2006 - Back to News To be run by Tourism Alliance Victoria and held at the Collins Street offices of Tourism Victoria, the series of seminars is designed for those who have either just started or are planning to start a tourism business and would like to know more about who to talk to, what to do and how to go about it.
East Gippsland Shire’s Economic Development/Tourism Coordinator Phil Rickards said that the aim of the Tourism Victoria sponsored workshops was to provide participants with a strategic insight into a range of important business skills directly relating to tourism.
"Topics covered through the series of three-hour seminars will include licences and insurance, health and safety, business and marketing planning, how the tourism industry is structured and works and the networks and resources available to assist operators," Mr Rickards said.
"Workshop notes, a comprehensive resource kit as well as lists of industry contacts and networking opportunities will also be provided," he added.
The seminars will be held from 6.00pm-9.00pm on Wednesdays 8 March, 17 May, 19 July, 13 September and 1 November and the cost is $99 per person or $155 per partnership or business couple.
Mr Rickards said that although there were minimal barriers to entry into the tourism industry, having some basic industry skills and knowledge could dramatically increase business success rates and profitability.
"I can thoroughly recommend these workshops to any East Gippslander considering starting up in tourism," he said.
