Anderson Road Boat Ramp Consultation Begins

Bass Coast Shire Council wants to know your thoughts on the plans for the Anderson Road Boat Ramp in Cowes.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 14th July 2009 - Back to News

Environment Manager, Paul Smith, said the community’s input on the project was vital.

"The consultant, GHD Pty Ltd, has prepared a Boating Action Plan (BAP) for the facility," explained Mr Smith.

"The Action Plan investigates the potential for major improvements to the recreational facilities at Anderson Road."

Mr Smith said the Plan presented Council and the community with a number of feasible options to consider.

"It is important that we know how the community feel about these options," Mr Smith said.

"The plan will guide the future development of the boat ramp, enabling it to be used by all recreational boats over all tides.

"We need to know what the community and users of the boat ramp expect in relation to vessel size, the need for an upgrade, priority issues to be rectified and potential types of infrastructure.

"We are also looking for input on a number of non boating issues."

A questionnaire has been developed to help gauge community feelings on the Boating Action Plan.

"Recreational boating has grown significantly in the past five years and it is estimated that boating activity has increased almost five fold," explained Mr Smith.

"The current condition of the ramp and lack of some infrastructure makes the Anderson Road boat ramp unsafe and unusable in some weather conditions.

"The BAP will help Council to plan and apply for funding to improve the facilities."

The Boating Action Plan will be on public exhibition from 14 July until 11 August 2009. Copies of the Plan, summary sheet and response questionnaire can be downloaded from the Environment Section on Council’s website or viewed at the Cowes Customer Service Centre.
