GippsTAFE’s Community Access centre will soon be running a writing workshop called ‘Soulfood’, which will take place in December.

The workshop will be hosted by GippsTAFE teachers Catherine Bateson and Cora Pal who both teach Certificate IV in Professional Writing and Editing at GippsTAFE’s Yallourn Campus.

Catherine Bateson’s workshop will help you to draw upon your own life experiences to write in poetry or prose, and Cora’s session will have you build up a folio of six poems.

Cora Pal began her working life as a cub reporter in the UK. From there she worked as a journalist in India and has had three children’s books published by Jaico. Since coming to Australia, Cora Pal has taught English and Creative Writing and published a creative writing manual.

Catherine Bateson is an award winning poet and author for children and young adults. Her latest novel "Rain May and Captain Daniel" was awarded ‘Book of the Year for Young Readers’ by the Children’s Book Council. On top of the awards Ms Bateson has been teaching creative writing for over a decade.

The writing workshop will be held in Room 1 of the Access Department at the Yallourn campus of GippsTAFE on Saturday 6 December from 10.00am – 3.00pm. The cost is $40 and $30 concession (to be paid by 28/11/03).

The Certificate IV in Professional Writing and Editing can be completed on campus or on-line through the TAFE Virtual Campus and will be available in 2004.

The certificate IV provides training in creative, business, technical writing and editing, photography for writers and the production of texts.

For any more information about the workshop please contact Heather Cupples on (03) 5127 0238 or email heatherc@gippstafe.vic.edu.au.
